in the uk we are encouraged to make our donations by bank direct debit.
i just wondered if anyone knows if a direct debit is stopped whether the local kh the doner attended gets informed?.
my husband stopped his donation some time before we completely ceased attending meetings and he has always wondered whether the elders knew.

Thanks for all your replies. I reckon by the number of people on this site a lot of donations must have been stopped in the past year or so.

My husband stopped his donation some time before we completely ceased attending meetings and he has always wondered whether the Elders knew. One day whilst he was supermarket shopping he bumped into an Elder who asked if he could ask him something and when he said "yes" the Elder then said never mind and we have always wondered whether it was to ask by he had stopped his donation.
Thanks.

from what i've noticed 'wordly' teens or very young adults won't follow jw's.most teens/young jw's are born in,so boasting about the theocratic youth is actually boasting about jw children lol..
When I attended meetings I was always told that unlike other religions children are not baptised as babies but wait until they can make their own mind up! However, my husband was forced by his mother at the age of 13/14 to be baptised, he really didn't want to be. Having read this thread it seems that he was not alone in being baptised against his wishes.
In the church which I attended as a child I was christened as a baby under the care of my parents but as I grew up it then became my choice and so at aged 13 I was confirmed. This was completely my decision. My three brothers were all christened like me but none of them went on to be confirmed as it was not their choice.
Therefore, the JWs constant criticism of other faiths baptising as babies falls a bit on stony ground as it is the confirmation that reconfirms this when the child is old enough to choose for themselves. As in my family only one in four was confirmed. Their argument that children are only baptised when they are ready appears to be another lie since my husband and others who have mentioned on this thread they were all forced to be baptised.

"do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones.
" ecclesiastes 7:9. have you noticed: .
how so many witlesses get their nose out of joint if you make a wisecrack/joke that's even the slightest bit off color or heretical?
MMCIV, your post reminds me of a conversation I had when I was new to the KH.
There was an Irish chap who had always made me welcome the first few Sundays that I attended and joking around when he was talking to him one day I said "You've kissed the Blarney Stone". Quick as a flash he said that he wasn't superstitious.
As everyone on this site knows these quips don't mean anything of the sort, I am not superstitious either anymore than most people I know, it is just banter. I was so surprised by his attitude over something meaningless and trivial. I began to see why everyone behaved like robots as you cannot even joke around with JWs as they seem to have had a sense of humour bypass.

Exwhyzee - thanks for your explanation re windows (or lack of them) I guessed that there would be a valid reason. Poor kid that got hurt though, no-one deserves that.
It was just the JW's response to that question, it is neither here nor there whether they have windows or not but she seemed to take it as some sort of accusation that the questioner was insinuating that something untoward went on in the KH whereas it was a just and valid question which should have prompted a sensible reply like you just gave.
Thanks.

in my nervousness, i inadvertently deleted a well thought out post.
here is the short version:.
my co-worker shuns me completely unless i ask him work related questions.. he treats everyone else nicely and jokes with them, but not with me.. he can't bring himself to even look in my direction.. when i walk up to the area he's in, he hightails it to somewhere else.
I understand how you feel, when you work with someone it is important to create and have a good working relationship. I think maybe asking outright may not be the right thing to do, with JWs it may create further problems for you.
Does your office/workplace have the habit of bringing in cakes on their birthdays? Do they have Christmas parties? Sometimes, just observing how they deal with these type of functions may give you more of a clue. It would be quite natural, for example, just to asking if he is going to go to the Christmas party. If he says no if may not necessarily mean he is a JW.
I would not volunteer information about you having been a JW in any conversation unless specifically asked.
You could always park near your local KH and see if he turns up for the meeting! I am sure there are many ways to find out without really asking.
Good luck and keep us posted.

we know in the jw realm, satan is believed to be the main cause of all the wickedness going on in our world today.
after taking a quick look at news headlines, and seeing the crap going on around us, i personally don't find that so hard to believe.
but i wanted to see how you guys handle the tragedies and wickedness going on around us?
I understand how you feel. It affected me particularly badly after I gave birth to my first child. I couldn't bear to watch the news for a long time as I felt really worried that I had given birth to a child in a depressing world. At this time I had nothing to do with the witnesses, this came much later.
Having moved on (25 years later) and been attending meetings a little over six years I realize that JWs seem to concentrate on the bad things going on in the world. However, there are a lot of caring, giving people who do a lot to help others less fortunate. They are so busy doing it that they do not have time to stand on a platform telling everyone how much they are doing or have done.
I agree with the others who have posted here the world is no worse than it ever was, it is just better news reporting that we hear about it more these days.
The witnesses are keen to talk about the wicked world but they do nothing to help which has always amazed me, the fact that they are aware and alive to what is going on but do nothing. They say things like "wait on Jehovah" which is a cop out. How do you think he feels seeing that they talk about it and do nothing?
When you look at, for example, The Salvation Army, they don't just preach it they get out there and do something about it. Actions speak louder than words.
It seems to me that the JWs use the bad things going on in the world as a way of catching people's attention to their organisation. Next time they call and they use this as an introduction I think I will ask what THEY are doing about it.
There is a programme on TV in the UK called "The Secret Millionnaire" it is about people from ordinary usually poor backgrounds who through their own efforts and hard work have become millionnaires. They go back to their roots posing as a volunteer worker to help with various charities saying that they are making a programme about the unemployed in that area to explain away the camera crew.
However, they actually use it as a way of seeing where they can make generous donations where the money will really be used for something that will change people's lives as well as physically giving up their time and working with the charities.
These millionaires are sometimes people who may have had a drug or drink problem themselves, overcome it and worked hard and become wealthy. They really understand problems.
This programme always makes me realise that there are people out there doing lots to help others.

Before I joined this site I sometimes used to look at another site called Answerbag.
The JW section is something else. Of course, lots of questions are posted to JWs - some are genuine whereas others I would say are to wind the JWs up.
However, what I have noticed is that the downright rude responses that are given by some of the JWs on there. Fine, I can understand them defending their religion - that is their right. However, as Christians I would have thought that they should be polite at all times regardless. It is one thing being rude to someone asking a deliberately provocative question (thought as Christians they should not). Sometimes they are really offensive in response to really genuine questions.
There was one asking why KHs did not have windows.
One response was to the effect "of course, they have windows, why wouldn't they? We don't get up to anything inside that needs to be hidden away, you are asking this question to cause trouble" or something to that effect.
However, in the UK I can vouch for the fact that our KH did not have windows. Of course, this must vary but for me for someone to be so defensive over something so trivial is unbelievable - just makes me think of all the baggage they must be carrying to react so.

teel's thread re his jc and his lawyer's advice has made me think....why dont all of us disfellowshipped ones sue the org for defamation of character????.
imagine if we could find a lawyer who'd be prepared to start a suit against them on behalf of us all?.
any thoughts?.
I would have thought in the UK defamation of character is a possibility. There is slander and also libel if the WT has written a letter disfellowshipping someone. It may not go through the complete Court system but it may raise public awareness.
I worked for a lawyer many years ago who took on a client who was suing someone for slander. It was so long ago cannot remember what happened.
